Beyond Business: Mohinani Group’s Touching Tribute to Special Needs Institutions & Charity Homes

The manufacturing and trading business conglomerate, the Mohinani Group, embarked on a heartfelt journey in October to put smiles on the faces of children in selected special schools and orphanages in Accra and Tamale in honour of its executive director, Ashok Mohinani, who turned sixty (60) on October 4, 2023.

The kind gesture, according to the group, was in celebration and in keeping with the values and beliefs of Mr. Ashok as he marks this significant milestone.

In a near-week-long celebration, a top-tier representative from the various businesses in the group, including Polytank Ghana Ltd., Somotex, and Masco Food, which holds the franchise to KFC in Ghana, among others, visited the Chosen Children’s Home in Darkuman, the Epicenter Special School in Gbawe, and the Yumba Special School in Tamale, to dine with the children and to celebrate the management and staff of these organizations for their care for humanity.

The group presented assorted meals on the KFC meals menu, drinks, and packs of bottled water to each of the centres visited as part of the celebration. Additionally, Electromart, another subsidiary of the group, presented Bruhm double-door fridges to three of the institutions visited: the Epicenter, Yumba, and the Impact Care and Rehab Foundation.

Leaders of the delegation, Bright Nkosi and Jonathan Osei Bonsu, explained that the purpose of the visit was to extend the joy of Mr. Ashok to the less privileged, especially orphans and children with special needs due to conditions such as cerebral palsy, autism, Down syndrome, and abandonment, and to also draw attention to the relatively less-celebrated organizations that are giving hope to these children.

At the Chosen Children’s Home, where street children, orphans, and substance addicts are catered to, transformed, and reintegrated into society, the management was excited about the visit and used the opportunity to appeal for the group’s support and that of corporate Ghana in aid of their on-going building project, to which individuals and organizations are permitted to contribute sections and name it after themselves.

The birthday celebration was climaxed at the Impact Care and Rehab foundation at Weija, where Mr. Ashok Mohinani and his wife Mehek Mohinani joined the leadership team of the Mohinani group to cut his cake and spend some time dining with the children at the centre. The Impact Care and Rehab Foundation serves as a safe haven for abandoned babies and children suffering from cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and other intellectual and health conditions that make them require special care and attention.

In his remark, Mr. Ashok reiterated the need to support such special homes and schools, stating that “everyone needs some form of help, but in my opinion, those who need it the most are the children living in orphanages and special homes. These children did not choose to be in their current situation, and they need all the support they can get”.

He subsequently offered to cover the cost of surgery for a 4-week-old baby who was abandoned at the center due to hydrocephalus, a condition that causes fluid buildup in the brain, and further called on individuals and corporate Ghana to channel some of their CSR budgets to these humanitarian causes.

On her part, the founder of the Impact Rehab Foundation, Mildred Osei, expressed profound gratitude to Mr. Ashok and the group for their support of the orphanage home and the community.

“Mr. Ashok’s decision to spend his birthday with the vulnerable and abandoned children is a clear indication of his love for humanity” Mrs. Osei observed.

She further noted that the community will remain grateful for the show of magnanimity by Mr. Ashok and the Mohinani group in their Corporate Social Responsibility drive and that it was a true testament to the group’s unwavering support of the vulnerable and the less privileged in society.
