Buipe-Tamale Highway accident kills 18

18 people lost their lives in a fatal road accident on the Buipe-Tamale Highway in the Savannah Region in the early hours of Wednesday, February 3, 2021.

Atinka News gathered that, two Yutong buses from Kumasi with registration numbers GT 3345-16 and AC 1699-20 with about 45 persons on board collided head-on resulting in the deadly accident.

One of the buses was traveling from Kumasi to Zebila, whilst the other one was en-route from Garu to Kumasi.

The incident happened at Sarekyekura Community near Fufulso on the Buipe-Tamale Highway, the acting Public Relations Officer for the Savannah Region, Inspector Adjekum Owusu confirmed to Atinka News.

Eighteen persons made up of 14 male adults, 3 female adults and 1 female child died on the spot.

He said, the rest sustained various degrees of injuries and were rushed to the Buipe Polyclinic and Holistic Medicare Hospital for treatment.

According to him, two persons who died whilst receiving treatment at Holistic Medicare Hospital brought the total to 18.

He mentioned that, efforts were being made to tow the accident vehicles to the station and trace both suspects (drivers) to assist in investigation.

The deceased have been conveyed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital Mortuary for preservation awaiting identification and autopsy.
