The Comptroller-General of Immigration (CGI), Mr. Samuel Basintale Amadu, has paid a visit to AICO II Daniel Kofi Oppong, who is currently receiving treatment at the Tamale Teaching Hospital following a violent attack at the Gbintri checkpoint in the North East Region.
The brutal assault, which occurred while the officers were on duty, tragically claimed the life of AICO II Rafiq Mohammed. The incident has drawn widespread condemnation.
Expressing profound sorrow during the hospital visit, CGI Amadu described the attack as a “cowardly act” and assured that such incidents would not undermine the commitment of the Ghana Immigration Service to securing the nation’s borders.
“This cowardly attack will not deter us,” he stated. “We remain resolute in our mission to protect Ghana’s territorial integrity. Our officers will be equipped with the necessary protective gear and logistics to perform their duties effectively.”
The Comptroller-General also appealed to the public to support the ongoing investigation by providing information that could lead to the apprehension of the assailants.

The visit formed part of CGI Amadu’s tour of the North East Region, which is focused on assessing operational readiness and boosting the morale of frontline officers.
He was accompanied by senior officials including DCOI Maud Anima Quainoo, Head of the Public Affairs Department; Northern Regional Commander DCOI Thomas Adjei; Chief Staff Officer ACOI Gorden Saah; and other top-ranking officers.

The Ghana Immigration Service is working closely with other security agencies to ensure that justice is served and that the perpetrators are brought to book.
