The Chancellor and Founder of Entrance University of Health Sciences, Nana Samuel Amo Tobbin, has made a passionate appeal to the Vice President of the Republic, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, to advocate for increased government scholarships to be extended to students in private universities across the country.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the university’s newly established Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, and a state-of-the-art Dental Hospital, Chairman Tobbin emphasized the importance of supporting local institutions to retain talent and resources within Ghana.

“By channeling scholarship funds to local universities, we not only strengthen our educational system but ensure that the money stays within the country and supports our own communities,” he said.

“Too many parents send their children to Ukraine and China for medical and dental training, only for them to return and struggle with licensure due to language and cultural barriers. This is not the fault of the students—it’s a systemic gap that we must close.”

He highlighted that the creation of Entrance University was inspired by the need to bridge such gaps and to offer globally competitive but locally grounded education in health sciences.

In her keynote address, Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, who officially inaugurated the new academic and clinical facilities, lauded the university’s achievement as a trailblazing effort.

“Entrance University is now the first private tertiary institution in Ghana to establish a dental school and commence medical and dental training simultaneously. This is no small feat,” – she said.
