The Minister for Eastern Region, Mr Eric Kwakye Darfour, has revealed that 6 persons have so far lost their lives following the collapse of a church building at Akyem Batabi on Tuesday.
The uncompleted church building collapsed while service was ongoing, trapping scores of worshippers as a result.
Speaking with Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive on Wednesday, the minister said five bodies were retrieved this morning, bringing the death toll to 6 as one death was recorded yesterday.
He revealed that two survivors are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
Mr Darfour indicated that the rescue team on the ground has been beefed up to speed up the rescue process.
Uncomfirmed reports indicate that there were over 60 worshippers in the building when it collapsed .
Further reports on the ground indicate that cry of trapped victims could be heard under the rubble.
