Covid-19: Akufo-Addo meets Cabinet on possible reopening of schools

The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, is set to meet cabinet today, Wednesday 30th December 2020 to deliberate on the possible reopening of schools in January 2021.

This was made known by the Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah in a tweet on Tuesday December 29th 2020.

He explained that government has been in discussions with various stakeholders within the sector to come up with a comprehensive and detailed plan on the reopening of schools and

“President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo prepares to meet cabinet tomorrow for a decision on the possible reopening of schools in January. Key on his agenda will be to examine the proposals for assuring the safety of our children, should schools reopen.”

“These decisions are not made lightly. But so far, all his COVID management decisions have been spot on. Fingers crossed, he will make the best decision in the interest of our children and our schools,” Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said in a tweet.

The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo speaking during the 16th Covid-19 update address noted that the Ghana Education Service, after further consultations, has decided to postpone the remainder of the academic year for all nursery, kindergarten, primary, JHS 1 and SHS 1 students.

He added that the next academic year will resume in January 2021, with appropriate adjustments made to the curriculum, to ensure that nothing is lost from the previous year
