The leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is expected to file a petition at the Supreme Court today Wednesday December 30, 2020.
The petition is to challenge the results of the 2020 general elections.
The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) declared the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, winner of the 2020 Presidential elections.
Akufo-Addo obtained a total of 6,730,413 votes of representing 51.59 % of the total vote cast.
The NDC’s candidate John Dramani Mahama obtained 6, 214, 889 representing 43.6 percent of the total vote cast.
After the declaration of the results by the EC, the NDC fiercely opposed the outcome, arguing that their candidate John Dramani Mahama is the winner of the polls, per pink sheets in their possession.
There have been series of demonstrations to protest the results of the elections by supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The NDC in a statement released and signed by the General Secretary of the Party, Johnson Asiedu-Nketiah said NEC had decided to officially contest the results of the rigged elections in the Supreme Court and other appropriate fora.
The statement added that the party will continue all legitimate actions, including protestations, to press home its demands for the government to enforce the rule of law and protect life and property in Ghana.

The NDC’s commitment to the upholding of the Constitution and respect for human rights shall remain unshaken”, the statement added.
