Covid-19: GMA warns of second wave of virus

The President for the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr. Frank Ankobea, says the country is likely to experience a second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

This caution by the GMA President follows global  reports of second wave of covid 19.

UK has announced a lockdown to prevent a “medical and moral disaster” for its National Health Scheme.

Pubs, restaurants, gyms and non-essential shops in the UK have been closed for four weeks efective Thursday.

Speaking to host of Atinka FM’s AM Drive Ekourba Gyasi, President for the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr. Frank Ankobea said  Ghanaians have abandoned the covid-19 safety protocols, a move he described as deadly.

He noted that Ghana should be worried about the second wave in other countries since it is likely to get into the country should we continue to ignore the covid-19 safety protocols.

” When notice that your friend’s beard is on fire, what do you do? You take precautionary measures to prevent yours from burning. GMA had a joint conference with the NCCE and we noticed that Ghanaians have abandoned the safety protocols citing a decrease in active cases as reasons. We had 2 cases in March but look at us now. Our politicians are also not helping matters. What happens when we all down after politics”, he added

President of the Republic of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said the country’s  recovery rate currently stands at 98.5%. The President who said this while addressing the nation for the 18th time following the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020, said the improvement in the recovery rate explained why Ghana has been spared of further restrictions in the management of the country’s  COVID-19 case count.
