Covid-19: Police to arrest beach goers

The Ghana Police Service has cautioned the public to avoid visiting beaches  as the country battles the spread of the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19).
Some revellers stormed the  Chokor  and Krokobite beaches on Easter Sunday to have fun, defying the ban on public gathering announced by the government to combat the pandemic.
In a press statement by the police, it said that, “In accordance with the Imposition of Restrictions Act. 2020 (Act 1012) and consequential orders, the public is to note that gathering at any beach in Ghana amounts to an offence.”
The Police stated that with the exception of security service personnel or essential service providers  whose presence at the beaches may be necessary to provide security or for public safety, all other persons found at any beach from now onward and within the period of imposition on public gathering or movement will be arrested.
“The Police Administration thereby encourages the general public to cooperate with the Police and other Security Services to help curb the spread ol‘thc coronavirus disease in the country,” the statement added.
