Member of Parliament for Juaboso Constituency and Ranking Member on the Health Committee of Parliament, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has asked government to the fix the mobile clinic vans purchased by the erstwhile Mahama administration to augment the new ambulances purchased by the current government.
The statement by Kwabena Mintah Akandoh comes after government commissioned and disbursed over 307 ambulances to the 275 constituencies in the country.
Labeling, training of staff and paramedics were some of the reasons for the delay in the commissioning and subsequent disbursement of the ambulances.
56 mobile clinic vans bought by the erstwhile Mahama government in 2014 at a cost of $93,000 each have been reportedly abandoned in Accra and Tamale.
Speaking to Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive Wednesday, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Juaboso Constituency and Ranking member on the health committee of Parliament, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh expressed displeasure in the fact that mobile vans which can travel to the hinterlands have been left to rot.
He called on the Nana Addo led administration to, as a matter of urgency, deploy the vans, which, according to him are still in good conditions, to remote areas which are hard to reach.
Checks by Atinka News’ reporter, Bernard Obeng Boadu who visited the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital revealed that 8 vans have been abandoned even though all health materials are still intact.
Also commenting on the disbursed ambulances on Atinka AM Drive, Head of Operations at the National Ambulance Service, Mr. Foster Ansong, revealed that although most of the ambulances are yet to reach their destinations, some constituencies in Accra have received theirs.
He called on Ghanaians to make good use of the ambulances by utilizing services provided by the vehicle.
