Legal Practitioner and Lecturer, Francis Acquah Annan, has urged the NPP-Government not to blame hardship in the country on recent happenings.
According to him, Ghana has suffered rise in fuel prices and other challenges even before the Russia-Ukraine war and so the government should not blame the hike in fuel price to on the war.
Finance Minister, Mr Ken Ofori Atta recently outlined some cost cutting measures to save the ailing economy.
The cost-cutting measures include a 50% cut in fuel coupon allocation for government appointees and heads of government institutions effective April 1, 2022.
He mentioned a 50% cut in fuel coupon allocations for all political appointees and Heads of government institutions, including SOEs, effective 1st April 2022.

“With immediate effect, the Government has imposed a complete moratorium on the purchase of imported vehicles for the rest of the year. This will affect all new orders, especially 4-wheel drives. We will ensure that the overall effect is to reduce total vehicle purchases by the public sector by at least 50 per cent for the period.
Already, a section of the public have complained about rise in fuel prices, which some government spokes persons have attributed it to the Russia- Ukraine war.
Speaking on Atinka TV‘s morning show, Ghana Nie, with Ekourba Gyasi Simpremu, Lawyer Francis Acquah Annan described some statements by the Finance Minister as a fallacy, saying they are not entirely true that the challenges Ghana is facing is not peculiar to the country only.
He said “from the onset, the difficulty we are facing in Ghana are not peculiar to Ghana,’ this is a fallacy, it is not true.” the Lawyer said.
He continued that,”The problem of the depreciation of our cedi, fuel prices, inflation, interest rate, from 1992, we have not been able to handle these situations well. Things are worse but it is not recent. To use recent means is as if something happened recently. If you say the Russia-Ukraine war has caused the hardship then it is not true. I speak for the masses, not from political background. Since 1992, we have not been able to manage fuel prices, inflation, exchange rate and depreciation of cedi well be it NDC or NPP.”
He again sad, “However, to talk about performances, it was one of the main campaign messages of the NPP and so if you came and you cannot perform, do not blame it on recent happenings or say the problems are not peculiar to Ghana. It is peculiar to Ghana!.”
