Former Vice President and Flagbearer of the opposition NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has criticized the NDC government for introducing a new tax after previously opposing the E-Levy and later scrapping it.
Speaking in Cape Coast during his just-ended nationwide “Thank You Tour” in the Central Region, he accused the NDC of misleading Ghanaians with false promises during the 2024 election.
Dr. Bawumia highlighted the introduction of the Dumsor Levy, a tax on fuel purchases, which he claims is significantly more burdensome than the abolished E-Levy. He explained that while the E-Levy charged 10 cedis on a 1,000-cedi transaction, the new fuel tax imposes 83 cedis on the same amount spent on fuel.
He warned that Ghanaians should prepare for additional taxes under the current administration, predicting that by 2028, citizens would recognize the NDC’s alleged deception.
Confident in his party’s future, Dr. Bawumia expressed belief that Ghanaians would call on the NPP to return to power and govern effectively.
