Drivers have huge responsibility in preventing road accidents- Titus-Glover

MP for Tema East Constituency and Deputy Minister of Transport, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover, has asked drivers to be cautious on the road since the prevention of the road accident menace lies in their hands.

Over 10 persons perished in a fatal accident at Ekumfi Dunkwa on the Winneba-Cape Coast Highway in the Central Region last Friday.

The accident, which occurred Friday morning involved a Yutong bus which was believed to have been travelling from Takoradi to Accra, and a Metro Mass Transit bus heading towards Cape Coast. This brings the number of road accident deaths last Friday to about 90 in one day.

The first accident which occurred at Ampomakrom, near Kintampo in the Bono East Region involved a VVIP bus with registration number GT 3915-17 and a grand bird bus with registration number GT-5694-18.

Speaking with Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive, Titus-Glover complained bitterly about how some drivers drive recklessly on our roads. According to him, these drivers forget that they are carrying human lives and despite all cautions from the Road Safety Commission..

He extended his condolence to the families of the deceased especially those whose bodies could not be identified and were given a mass burial.

“The government can do its role, the media can do their part, the Police can enforce the law but the ultimate power lies in the hands of the drivers to adhere to laws governing driving and road safety in Ghana,” he added.
