The opposition National Democratic Congress, is alleging that the NPP in collaboration with the EC is trying to steal five seats out of the 140 it claims it has won.
Addressing the media at short press conference, the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, said the evidence available to the NDC formally puts the party in the lead of the 2020 election.
“Evidence available to us formally from collated pink sheets, from polling stations across the country and specific, from all constituencies in Ghana puts the NDC in lead with 140 parliamentary seats won. That makes us the majority party whiles we wait for the declaration of the presidential outcome,” he said.
He said that,” Understandably, you should know why we have the parliamentary results and does not have the presidential results yet. With the presidential results, the Chairperson of the EC is the returning officer, with parliamentary results per CI12, the EC Chair appoints returning officers and counting is done at various polling stations, polling station results signed on pink sheets validated gives the NDC 140 seats.”
Haruna Iddrisu alleged that there are attempts by the NPP to want to subvert the sovereign will of the people of Ghana and even to reduce its parliamentary numbers by five, targeting the Tarkwa Constituency, Sefwi Wiawso constituency, Upper Denkyira West, Sene West and Techiman South.
In Techiman South, he said the NDC candidate won, adding that,” Having won, you saw them use the military unprofessionally, guns do not vote and guns will not make Nana Addo Dankwa the president of this country. We will resist oppressors rule.”
The Minority Leader also said In Techiman, the security personnel used guns to shoot to scare its party agents who did not sign the pink sheets in favour of the NPP.
He said the NDC will not accept anything different from what it has received from Techiman.
In Upper Denkyira west, he said,” We are sending a clear warning to the m,military and the arm forces that their loyalty is to the state not to elected officials. And if they intimidate us further, we will respond appropriately. Citizens too we have power, they cannot intimidate us continuously with their guns as they did at Techiman.”
He again said that, “In Savlugu, they desperately wanted some two or three seats to deny the NDC the majority , they started shooting at the Savlugu Police station, but the NDC won when it was counted.”
He said that in Upper Denkyira West, even after collation, the NDC won and the security threatened the Electoral Commissioner that they will eliminate and kill him if he so declare the results in favour of the NDC.
Haruna Iddrisu said using the military for a recount at collation centres is against the law as collation centres is rather used for the aggregation of results.
“It is not legally permissible to use the military to do recount compulsorily to intimidate electoral officers to do recount, our laws does not recognise that and swapping the outcome, collation centres are for aggregation of polling centre results, recounts can only be done at the polling station,” he said.
The Legislator said in Sene West, thugs snatched ballot box to deny the NDC its victory at the sene west,
he said whiles voting was still ongoing and they took the ballot box, only EC and the NDC seals were intact, questioning what happened to the NPP seal.
“Now their Modus Operandi is to use the military to intimidate and shoot. Guns don’t install a president, and we will not be intimidated,” he said.
