The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has officially presented a revised version of the 2024 voters register to all political parties and some independent presidential candidates.

This was done at the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting held on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. Each party received a hard drive containing the updated register, with representatives signing to collect the drives on behalf of their parties.

EC Chairperson Madam Jean Mensa announced that the total number of valid voters on the register stands at 18,772,251, with females accounting for 9,689,987 and males 9,082,264. Additionally, the register features 708,280 first-time voters.

She further revealed that the register includes 131,476 special voters, 332,107 transfers, and 2,142 proxy voters.

Madam Mensa also informed the gathering of the commencement of an online re-exhibition of the register, urging individuals or parties to report any errors to the EC’s District offices by Saturday, October 19, 2024, for corrections.

The Chairperson further emphasized that the EC’s role in the upcoming 2024 general elections is strictly to declare the voters’ choice, reiterating the Commission’s neutrality and calling on political parties to refrain from spreading misinformation regarding its functions.

However, a team representing independent presidential candidate Alan Kojo Kyerematen expressed dissatisfaction with the EC’s decision-making process.

Led by advisor Nana Ohene Ntow, they protested what they saw as unfair treatment of independent candidates, arguing that non-contesting parties were being allowed to influence key decisions while independent candidates were being sidelined.
