The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) will lose over GHS2 million in credit refunds to customers, the Public Relation Officer (PRO) for ECG has said.
The Public Utility Regulatory Commission has directed the Electricity Company of Ghana to pay compensation to power consumers living around Achimota, Korle-Bu and other areas of Accra who were unable to buy power in December 2017.
The meter challenge caused massive distress for residents of the affected areas ending in the huge crowd storming ECG offices in the area.
Speaking to Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive, Public Relations Officer (PRO) for ECG, William Boateng mentioned that the company will refund credit equivalent of the amount purchased and not a refund of the cash paid for the credit.
According to him, credits worth GHS1000 will be refunded to affected consumers.
“The distribution of the compensation has been categorized according to residential and commercial users of the credits. Residential users are likely to receive less credits than commercial users,” he added.
