Economic crisis: Mahama addresses nation Thursday

The former President for the Republic of Ghana John Dramani Mahama will be speaking on Ghana’s economic crisis Thursday October 27th October 2022.

In a tweet, the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi mentioned that John Mahama will speak on Ghana’s collapsed economy and the unprecedented hardships sweeping across the land and the way forward.

This comes after the former President charged the government to be transparent and call for help from well-meaning Ghanaians with the “best brains”.

Addressing leadership of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) at his office on Friday, Mahama asked government to come clean and tell Ghanaians the state of the economy.

“The government should come clean and tell us, ‘What is the state of the economy?’ You must put everything on the table…That is why I called for a national dialogue. I said bring the best brains together. I have been president before, it served me well. I called the Senchi Forum, it didn’t reduce my stature as President,” Mahama said.

Mahama said Ken Ofori-Atta, all along, had been hiding behind a woeful economy and he was rather painting a rosy picture as if all was well.

Speaking on Atinka FM’s AM Drive with host Kaakyire Ofori Ayim, Local governance expert, Issaka Amon Kotei asked Akufo-Addo to take Mahama’s suggestion in good faith and speak to stakeholders.

“When it comes to trade,, GUTA is a stakeholder. When it comes to the salaries of workers, TUC is a major stakeholder. When it comes to the welfare of teachers, GNAT and NAGRAT are major stakeholders. Even students are major stakeholders. It will be better for them to come clean and tell us the exact state of the economy,” he added.
