Eid: Outbreak of anthrax affects sales of meat products – Kasoa Chief Butcher

Chief Butcher at the Awutu Senya East Municipality Mr. Issah Musah, has expressed worry over low patronage of meat products due to the announcement of anthrax disease.

The Upper East Regional Coordinating Council a few weeks ago banned movement of all small ruminants including sheep, goat, pigs, cattle and dogs from the Eastern corridor of the Region, thus Bawku Municipality, Bawku West, Pusiga, Garu, Tempane and Binduri Districts, following the outbreak of the anthrax disease.

Speaking to Atinka News in an interview, Mr. Issah Musah said the ban on ruminants heavily impacted on sales of meat during this year’s Eid al Adha.

The Chief Butcher, although hinted earlier that meats slaughtered at the Abattoir were wholesome for consumption, sales had been low due to fear of anthrax.

He assured the people of Kasoa of the sanity of meat products from the new market abattoir, explaining that all meats processed are inspected and certified by veterinary officers.

In a related development to the celebration of Eid al Adha, Mr. Musah noted that the slaughter of animals signifies giving to the poor and needy.

Meanwhile, vaccination is still ongoing in the country in order to contain the disease.
