Election 2024: Bawumia promises  flat tax system

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s 2024 flagbearer, has promised to introduce a flat tax rate system in 2025 when elected president in the December elections.

Many Ghanaians, he said, do not comprehend the current tax system in the country, but he envisions the implementation of a tax system that allows taxpayers to comprehend their tax obligations and use this information to manage their finances.

He was interacting with the leadership of the Trade Union Congress in Accra as part of his campaign plan to solicit ideas in the areas of religion, tradition, labor unions, and civil society organizations in the country to craft his manifesto.

Dr. Bawumia reassured the business community that the implementation of his flat rate policy would boost Ghana’s economy, fostering business growth and generating more revenue for the government to manage the economy.

“I want to introduce a new tax system in Ghana. I don’t want to tinker with the existing tax system. I want a new tax system. I’ve studied tax systems all over the world. Estonia has been the most tax-competitive country in the world for the last ten years,” he said.
