Election 2024: Youth encouraged to be ambassadors of Change

Lydia Seyram Alhassan, the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, has asked Ghanaian youth to be ambassadors of Change before, during and after the December 2024 polls.

The lawmaker made this appeal when the Africa Centre for Democracy and Socioeconomic Development (CDS Africa), held its third Youth Democracy Forum at the University of Ghana in Accra.

The primary goal of this forum is to raise awareness about the crucial role democracy plays in Ghana’s development, sustainability, and fostering youth involvement.

Themed “Deepening Youth Participation in the Democratic Process” the Youth Democracy Forum provided an exclusive platform for students to develop and showcase their public speaking skills while gaining a deeper understanding of Ghana’s democratic landscape.

Speaking at the event, Lydia Seyram Alhassan the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency charged the Ghanaian youth to use the knowledge acquired at the Youth Democracy Forum to be

“As we prepare to exbibit our civil rights as Ghanaians in December this year, it is my fervent prayer that the youth of our country will use the knowledge acquired from this forum to be ambassadors of Change while raising the flag of Ghana high before, during and after the 2024 polls,” Lydia Seyram Alhassan added.

Touching on the motive for the forum, Dr Abena Boateng, the director of research and policy at CDS Africa said the Youth Democracy Forum is to sensitize the youth especially students about the importance of democracy and the need for their full participation.

She revealed that when the youth partake in the democratic processes it enhances their knowledge in politics, governance as prepare them for future opportunities.

Also speaking at the event, Prof. Alidu Seidu, the Head of the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana explained the differences of participation as regards to democracy and the democratic processes.

He called on the youth to select and defend democratic values, engage in the democratic process, and always select from among the numerous channels of dispute resolution accessible to them in times of need, such as voting, lawful protests, the legal system, and protests.
