The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called for calm in the ongoing EndSARS protest in Nigeria.
This follows a protest by a social movement to End the brutalities of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad against Nigerians.
The protesters are calling for an end to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a controversial unit of the Nigerian Police Force with a long record of abuses.
Akufo-Addo, who doubles as the Chairman for the The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in a tweet noted that violence , be it on the part of the Police or protesters, cannot be the solution to the act.
“I join all well-meaning persons in calling for calm, and the use of dialogue in resolving the #EndSARS impasse in Nigeria. I have spoken with President Buhari, who is committed to this end, and has begun the processes that will lead to reform. Violence, be it on the part of the Police or protesters, cannot be the solution. To the families who have lost their loved ones, I express my sincere condolences, and I wish the injured a speedy recovery,” Akufo-Addo said in a tweet Wednesday.
