The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has entreated the public to perform their housekeeping responsibilities, both at home and at their workplaces diligently, in order to forestall potential hazards and fire outbreaks.
The service, which observed that poor housekeeping practices have resulted in several fire outbreaks in our homes, offices and factories reiterated the need to ensure proper housekeeping as an integral part of fire safety management.
The call came following the recent rising cases of fire outbreaks that have destroyed properties and lives.
In a statement signed by the Head of Public Relations, Divisional Officer Grade II Ellis Robinson Okoe, “Workplace and offices are mostly prone to various degrees of hazards, thus, it will require consistent good housekeeping efforts in order to minimize or eliminate workplace hazards.”
“Practices such as regular inspection, cleaning and repair of all tools, maintaining clean light fixture to improve lighting visibility as well as ensuring that the requisite insurances and fire certificates at workplaces are acquired,” it said.

PROPER HOUSE KEEPING IS KEY TO SAFETY IN HOMES, OFFICES AND FACTORIES
In recent times, poor housekeeping practices have resulted in several fire outbreaks in our homes offices and factories. This therefore reiterates the need to ensure proper housekeeping as an integral part of fire safety management.
Good housekeeping practices comprise general care, cleanliness, orderliness and a wide range of other practices. In homes it is important to consider the safety of children by ensuring that highly flammable materials are kept at bay. Also, inculcating fire safety practices such as the proper use of the fire extinguisher and keeping the environs free of dirt and spillage.
Workplace and offices are mostly prone to various degrees of hazards, thus, it will require consistent good housekeeping efforts in order to minimize or eliminate workplace hazards.
