Fake “Western Togoland” lawyer has confirmed he's not a lawyer – Police

The Head of Public Affairs at the Criminal Investigative Department (CID) of the Ghana Police, DSP Juliana Obeng says the lawyer who was parading himself as a lawyer for the suspects involved in the Western Togoland case has confirmed he has never been to law school.

42-year- old Dennis Seyram Benson, who had been parading as  lawyer for suspects involved in the Western Togoland case, was arrested by Police Officers of the CID Headquarters on Thursday 17th December 2020 at the Kaneshie  District Court 2.

Dennis Seyram Benson had been appearing before the Court as Lawyer for the said clients since September 2020.

According to the Police his conduct aroused suspicion, leading to preliminary investigation which showed that he is not a Lawyer.

He is in police custody assisting investigations.

Speaking to sit-in-host for Atinka FM’s AM Drive program, Kaakyire Ofori Ayim, Head of Public affairs at the Criminal investigative Department (CID) of the Ghana Police, DSP Juliana Obeng, noted that the Police Service will make public any other relevant information that will come up in the course of the investigations.

“ We became suspicious of his work and started monitoring him. Our checks confirmed the suspicion and he was eventually caught Thursday 17th December 2020 at the Kaneshie  District Court 2. He has confessed that he is not a lawyer and has never been to any law school or its equivalent”, she said.
