Five dead in a head-on collision at Gomoa Adam

Five people are confirmed dead while seven others are in critical condition following a fatal accident at Gomoa Adam near Gomoa Anteadze on the Kasoa – Cape Coast highway in the Central Region.

The accident involved a Ford Transit with the Registration number GS 6031- 20 and a Toyota Hiace with the Registration Number GR 5059-20 .

Information indicates fourteen people were involved in the accident but five people died on the spot and seven others who are struggling for their lives at the Apam Catholic Hospital. Two have been treated and discharged.

Speaking to a survivor in the Toyota Hiace, Mr Issah Abubakar explained that, he joined the car from Kasoa heading to Cape Coast but upon reaching a section of the road, he saw the Ford Transit wrongfully overtaking a tanker and in the process, collided with their car.

Meanwhile, Medical Superintendent of Apam Catholic Hospital Dr Paul Acha, indicated that the 7 people who were in critical condition are now responding to treatment.

He added that although they need to be referred to a bigger hospital, no hospital is ready to admit them due to lack of space.

On the other hand, the Apam District Fire Commander DO1 Adolf Ankomah Nuamah described the accident as one of the horrible he has ever witnessed.

He could not phantom why the driver made “such a careless and dangerous overtaking.”

The fire commander called on passengers not to sit unconcerned when drivers are going wayward.
