Prampram: Alleged Nigerian cyber crime gang of 35 busted

The Police in Prampram in the Greater Accra Region have picked up a 35 member gang of Nigerians, engaging in cyber related offenses.

The suspects, who have since been remanded into police custody, are assisting the police into series of crime cases.

The Nigerians who were smoked out of their 3 -bedroom apartment in Dawhenya, a suburb of Prampram in the Ningo Prampram District, ages from 19 to 30.

Briefing the press in Prampram, Divisional Police Crime Officer, Chief Supt Cecilia Arkoh, said the 35 suspects with 3 on the run, were arrested following a tip off from a resident who had initially reported of a robbery case in the area.

According to the crime officer, 3 out of the suspects who were brought from Nigeria on the assurance of securing them a job in a factory by one CHIDO, a wanted cyber fraudster, sneaked out an SOS information to a neighbouring house, to call for police assistance, following the abuse they were being subjected to by their masters for refusing to partake in the cyber crime (yahoo yahoo business).

Police personnel were immediately dispatched to the house only to meet the 35 suspects seated behind laptops chatting with their prospective victims.

With the latest arrest bringing the number of Nigerians arrested in the Prampram division for similar offences to 60, Chief Supt Arkoh, believes the area is gradually becoming a haven for Nigerian fraudsters due to it proximity, but assured they will equally clamp down on them

Meanwhile the 35 suspects have been remanded I to police custody for two weeks by a TEMA circuit court.
