President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said that due to the Planting for Food and Jobs Initiative, Ghana does not have to depend on other countries for food anymore.
According to him, due to the initiative, food is in abundance on the Ghanaian markets.
He stated that the country has seen the dramatic turnaround of its agricultural fortunes, due to the progressive policies that have improved the living standards of farmers in the country.
“The excellently executed policy for Planting for Food and Jobs has laid the foundation for the agricultural transformation of our country. We are able to say that our country is now a net exporter of food, and we no longer have to import basic foods like plantain and tomatoes,” he said.
Akufo-Addo noted that during the lockdown, Ghana did not have to import rice because of massive growth of local rice which was also used to feed the poor and the vulnerable.
Delivering the final SOTN in Parliament on Tuesday, December 5, 2021, he said,”During this COVID crisis, we have mercifully been spared the spectre of food shortages. On the contrary, thanks to planting for food and jobs, food has been in abundance in our markets across the country.”
