Four injured as Goldfields workers clash with security task force

Four workers of Goldfields Ghana Limited sustained serious injuries when they clashed with a combined team of Police and Military  task force Monday during a demonstration at Tarkwa.

The victims are currently receiving  treatment at the Tarkwa Government Hospital.

10 others were also arrested during the confrontation.

The workers were protesting against the company over its decision to go into contract mining .

According to the company, contract mining is in its best interest  since it will ensure the longevity and sustainability of the Tarkwa mine.

The move  will lead to the retrenchment of over  2,000 workers.

According to our correspondent, the  security  personnel who were brought in by the company ended up  firing warning shots and tear gas to disperse  the  agitated crowd. Unfortunately, four workers got injured and were rushed to the hospital .

The irate workers have vowed to continue protesting  until government stops Goldfields Ghana Limited from executing its retrenchment plans .
