Four workers of Goldfields Ghana Limited sustained serious injuries when they clashed with a combined team of Police and Military task force Monday during a demonstration at Tarkwa.
The victims are currently receiving treatment at the Tarkwa Government Hospital.
10 others were also arrested during the confrontation.
The workers were protesting against the company over its decision to go into contract mining .
According to the company, contract mining is in its best interest since it will ensure the longevity and sustainability of the Tarkwa mine.
The move will lead to the retrenchment of over 2,000 workers.
According to our correspondent, the security personnel who were brought in by the company ended up firing warning shots and tear gas to disperse the agitated crowd. Unfortunately, four workers got injured and were rushed to the hospital .
The irate workers have vowed to continue protesting until government stops Goldfields Ghana Limited from executing its retrenchment plans .
