Former Managing Director of the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company, Frances Essiam, has attributed what she describes as weaknesses within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to the leadership of the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua.
Speaking on Atinka TV’s Ghana Nie Morning Show with Nana Fianko, Essiam argued that the party’s organisational structure has deteriorated under Kodua’s stewardship.
“The NPP structure has been extremely weak under Justin Frimpong Kodua. He is the problem,” she stated.
The former state enterprise boss further questioned the General Secretary’s political experience and preparedness for the role, claiming she had long predicted challenges under his leadership.
“Justin Frimpong Kodua is a toddler in partisan politics. I predicted he didn’t have the capacity to be the NPP’s General Secretary,” she remarked.
Essiam, however, maintained that her criticism was not personal but based on concerns about the party’s direction and performance.
“I am not against Frimpong Kodua, but I predicted that the NPP would struggle under his time as General Secretary,” she said.
She also challenged his record within the party, asserting that he had not demonstrated the level of competence required for the position.
“Justin Frimpong Kodua doesn’t have any better track record in the NPP; he’s incompetent,” Essiam added.
Her comments come amid ongoing discussions within the NPP regarding the party’s future direction and leadership as members assess strategies for rebuilding and strengthening the party ahead of future political contests.
As of the time of publication, Justin Frimpong Kodua had not publicly responded to the remarks.
