A recent survey has revealed that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President of Ghana, is projected to lead the 2024 presidential elections with 49.1% of the votes. This development comes as the country gears up for the highly anticipated polls.
The survey conducted by a research team led by Prof. Smart Sarpong a lecturer at the Kumasi Technical University gives a detailed analysis of the political landscape of 276 constituencies in Ghana, 4- weeks to the general elections.
The survey positioned The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the closest contender with 45.1%, the presidential candidate for The New Force, Nana Kwame Bediako is next with 2.2%, Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanteng, the Presidential candidate for Movement for Change with 1.7%, the remaining candidates together with 1.7%.
Regional Dynamics
The survey indicates that NDC has gained momentum leading in 9 regions which are, Upper West, Upper East, Savannah, Northern, Bono East, Oti, Volta, Greater Accra, and Western.
In contrast, the NPP is leading in 7 regions which are, Bono, Ahafo, Central, Eastern, Ashanti, and North East regions.
Prof. Smart Sarpong, speaking in a press conference in Accra, said The NPP is likely to attain a majority in parliament with 128 safe seats and the NDC attain the minority with 92 safe seats with 56 seats to battle.
He added that this year’s election could be decided in the first round, and he urged the various political parties to up their game.
