GBC disappointed in GFA for making StarTimes TV rights holder of Ghana Premier League & FA Cup

The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) has expressed disappointment in the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for not giving GBC the Television rights holder of the Ghana Premier League and the FA Cup.
The GFA on January 8th 2020 in a press statement named StarTimes Ghana as the Television Rights Holder of the Ghana Premier League and the FA Cup.
According to the GFA, StarTimes Ghana emerged winners of the competitive bidding process after the GFA accepted their offer, which the GFA said was the best amongst other bids.
Reacting to the above, GBC expressed shock at GFA’s actions, claiming that it put in a bid which it was certain was superior to what StarTimes is said to have submitted.
“As published on the GFA website, StarTimes offered to pay USD 5,250,000 which comes up to USD, 1,050,000 annually whiles GBC made a financial offer of USD 1,100,000 annually. It is for this and other reasons  that we received the news with disappointment and shock,” GBC stated.
GBC also stated that apart from its superior financial offer, it thought the Premier League and the FA Cup content would have been treated like a national treasure and given to the national broadcaster and a consortium of local broadcasters.
“GBC wishes to put it on public record that the national broadcaster and the local TV consortium have been treated unfairly and unjustly,” GBC Added.
Meanwhile, GBC stated that GFA’s decision will gravely impact on Ghanaian’s acces to the Ghana Premier League and the FA Cup live games on Free-to-Air (FTA) broadcast.
