GCB Bank Contract Staff Charged with Stealing, Appears Before Court

A 29-year-old electronic collector, Samuel Owusu, has appeared before an Accra Circuit Court charged with stealing GH¢490,400 belonging to GCB Bank Plc. He pleaded not guilty to the charge of stealing.

Inspector Priscilla Avorgah, prosecuting, informed the court that the complainant in the case is the Manager of Security and Fraud at GCB Bank.

Preliminary investigations established that Owusu, while working at the bank’s Abossey Okai branch, was responsible for collecting funds from customers and depositing them into their respective accounts using an official mobile device.

According to her, a preliminary audit carried out on October 29, 2025, found that GH¢490,400 had been pilfered from many customer accounts.

Owusu acknowledged stealing the money between February and October 2025 after being confronted by the complainant, the bank manager, and his supervisor, according to what the court heard.

Owusu allegedly put the pilfered money in an online trading platform called “qadatralife.com” in an attempt to turn a profit, according to the prosecution.

He was then escorted to the police station to help with investigations after being arrested. Owusu said in his warning statement that instead of stealing the whole sum all at once, he took it gradually by neglecting to credit clients’ accounts with the money he had received.
