GCB supports 27th GJA Awards with 300k

The Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) has presented an amount of GH₵300,000 to the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) to support the Association towards the 27th GJA Media Awards.

The money is expected to support the event and winners of the Awards.

As the Lead sponsor, the presentation forms part of the GCB’s 70th Anniversary.

The 27th Annual GJA Media Awards scheduled to take place on Sunday, October 29, 2023, at the Accra International Conference Centre, at 3pm prompt.

The flagship annual event of the GJA is meant to celebrate professional excellence with awards in 34 competitive categories up for grabs.

The theme for this year’s awards is: “Leveraging media freedom to sustain the democratic and security architecture: The litmus test of Election 2024”.

The theme is informed by the significance of media freedom to democratic development and promotion of national security.

Speaking at a short event to present the money on Tuesday, October 24,2023 at the Ghana International Press Centre, Head of the General Legal Council for GCB, Madam Jessie Jacinto said there was no better time to come to the aid of the GJA than this difficult time.

According to her, the GCB was very much aligned with the theme of the event, saying without a secured environment, no one will be able to go about their daily normal duties, even to purchase food.

“Our sponsorship is to show the bank’s commitment to standing with our own people,” she said.

Madam Jessie Jacinto assured the public that GCB is the right bank for everyone, urging all, especially the media to bank with the GCB.

She also assured its customers that the bank can be trusted and that they exist to provide all their needs, encouraging all to download the App to access all the services the bank provides for its customers.

For his part, President of the Ghana Journalists Association, Mr Albert Kwabena Dwumfour expressed appreciation to the Management of the Bank for the support, especially as the lead sponsor for the awards.

He noted that GCB is one of the nations prominent financial institutions, adding therefore that the GJA is honoured to be affiliated with the Bank, especially during such a difficult time.

The GJA President also said their intervention is really timely and appreciable.

“The presentation marks the beginning of a new era for our partnership, we believe that this support would go a long way to further strengthen the relationship of the two institutions for mutual benefits,” he said.

He continued,”We are especially delighted to collaborate with GCB this year, as it also marks its 70th Anniversary. The Bank has significantly aided the local industry since its inception thereby fostering the expansion of numerous businesses. The GJA takes pride in its association with this achievement and its affiliation with GCB.”

Mr Albert Kwabena Dwumfour said the GJA will persist to provide the necessary support to GCB and other corporate entities to stabilise the local industry.

He urged fellow media colleagues to drive the publicity of the upcoming event, adding that it is the day for media practitioners.
