The Ghana Education Service (GES) has dismissed Mr. Charles Akwasi Aidoo, the Assistant Headmaster of KNUST Senior High School, after a disturbing video of him sexually harassing a female student went viral.
In the video, Mr. Aidoo was seen inappropriately touching the student while she recorded the act. The footage quickly spread on social media, drawing anger and condemnation from the public. Many parents and students expressed shock, calling the act a disgrace to the teaching profession.
GES has responded swiftly to the situation. In a statement signed by the Head of Public Relations, Mr. Daniel Fenyni, the Service confirmed Mr. Aidoo’s dismissal. The statement described his conduct as “unacceptable and unprofessional,” stressing that such behaviour would not be tolerated in the country’s schools. “In line with our commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the teaching profession and ensuring the safety and welfare of students under our care, Mr. Aidoo has already been removed from office and prohibited from going to the school while thorough investigations are being carried out,” GES stated.
The Education Service assured parents and guardians that the safety and dignity of students remain its top priority. It also urged teachers and school leaders to uphold discipline and serve as proper role models for young people.
Ghanaians are now at peace with themselves, considering the decisions of the GES. They now admit that the students are in safe hands, and the leaders are putting measures in place to ensure that.
