Ghana Cycling Federation calls for support

The Vice President for Ghana Cycling Federation and CEO for Riyahd Construction Ghana Limited, Riyahd Mohammed, has called for support from government and private entities.

Mr.  Riyahd was speaking on Atinka FM’s ‘The Legend Sports Show’ with host, Justice Adusi Opoku

According to him, the Federation’s main challenge is lack of sponsorship adding that they struggle to get companies on board for sponsorship and government support has been little. ‘‘Team managers donate their own money to support the team,’’ he added.

He said, currently athletes from Ghana are representing the nation at “Tournament De Faso’’ in Burkina Faso without sponsors.

He added, “this year the team went for the world championship in Scotland and we struggled to get the team there. Full sponsorship came from our own pocket’’

Riyahd again pleaded with government to offer some tax incentives to companies that are willing to sponsor cycling in the country.

He continued by stating that the African Championship will commence in March of 2024 and that their preparations for this occasion are less than stellar.

“Although other nations are preparing for this championship, the Ghanaian team has not even left for training camp in the past few months,” he emphasized.

In conclusion, he urged the government to place greater emphasis on lesser-known sports, where there are more accomplished players that the country is unaware of. He believes that shedding light on these athletes would assist in elevating the reputation of Ghana.
