The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress, (NDC)Johnson Aseidu Nketia, has asked the National Identification Authority (NIA) to indefinitely suspend the Ghana Card registration exercise until it completes consultations with appropriate stakeholders.
The NIA had earlier announced Monday, May 28, 2018, as the new date for the Ghana card registration.
However, the Authority later announced the immediate suspension of the planned rollout of the Ghana Card registration exercise due to some technical challenges.
It further explained its systems suffered technical hitches, affecting its ability to commence the rollout as scheduled.
Speaking to Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive Wednesday, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, mentioned that the Ghana card is a national asset which should not be politicized.
According to him, the registration of persons for the Ghana card will go a long way to help successive governments.
“The Ghana card will benefit all Ghanaians and it will be appropriate for the NIA to exhaust all consultations with the relevant stakeholders with regards to the Ghana card registration before rolling out the exercise,” he added.
