“Ghanaians in China are safe” – Ambassador

Ghana’s Ambassador to China, Mr. Edward Akwasi Boateng, has assured the general public that Ghanaians in China are safe.
This statement by the Ambassador comes after coronavirus was detected in China in December 2019.
Health officials say the new virus  is a family of viruses that include the common cold, and viruses such as SARS and MERS.
Coronaviruses are common in many different species of animals, including camels and bats. Rarely, these coronaviruses can evolve and infect humans and then spread between humans. Recent examples include SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV.
Until 2019 most coronaviruses infect animals, but not people.
Speaking to host of Atinka AM Drive, Ekourba Gyasi, Ghana’s Ambassador to China, Mr. Edward Akwasi Boateng, explained that although students and other Ghanaian citizens in China have been confined to their rooms, no Ghanaian have been infected with the virus.
He noted that the flu, Coronavirus, quickly spread to the other provinces in China due to the celebration of the Chinese New Year where travels usually intensify.
According to him,  Ghanaians have been  advised  to be cautious of their movements especially during this era.
“We are in constant communication with Ghanaians in China especially students through text messages and phone calls. We are also giving updates to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Presidency. We are monitoring the situation and we are on top of issues”.
