GJA announces 9-member committee for 28th GJA Awards

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has unveiled a distinguished 9-member committee tasked with overseeing the selection process for the 28th GJA Awards.

The committee, chaired by George-Ramsey Benamba, Chief Editor of the Ghana News Agency, is entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring the highest standards in the recognition of journalistic excellence.

The News Editor of Atinka Media Village, Isaac Nuamah Yeaboah, is also a member of the committee.

George-Ramsey Benamba, the Chief Editor of the Ghana News Agency, will lead the committee as its chairman.
With his extensive experience and respected position in the media landscape, Benamba is expected to guide the committee effectively in its deliberations and decisions.

The committee members are:

  1. Jamila Akweley Okertchiri – Editor, Daily Guide Network
  2. Loretta Vanderpuye – Regional Director, GBC Obonu FM / TV
  3. Joana Afua Mensah – News Editor, United Television (UTV)
  4. Isaac Yeboah** – Editor, Myjoyonline
  5. William A. Asiedu – Head of News, 3 FM and Co-host, Sunrise Morning Show
  6. Michael Quaye – Deputy News Editor, Daily Graphic
  7. Nana Kofi Acquah – International Photojournalist
  8. Isaac Nuamah Yeboah*- News Director, Atinka Media Village

These members bring a diverse array of expertise from various facets of journalism, ensuring a comprehensive evaluation of the entries.

The committee is mandated to:

  1. Review Entries: – Assess the entries submitted by GJA members and select the best in each category based on predefined criteria.
  2. Select Runners-Up: Identify the first and second runners-up in each category for special acknowledgment.
  3. Write Citations: Compose citations for the selected winners and nominees.
  4. Exercise Discretion: Apply discretion where necessary to ensure the most deserving entries are chosen.
  5. Report to National Executive: Submit a detailed report on their findings and selections to the National Executive.
  6. Recommend Improvements: Suggest enhancements to the awards process for future editions.

The committee has six weeks, from August 1, 2024, to September 17, 2024, to complete its work and submit its report.

The Chairman of the 28th Awards committee, George-Ramsey Benamba, behalf of the committee promise that “we use all the powers to ensure that the work is professionally executed at the end of the day”.
