Gloria Kani's rants drew my attention to "Papa No"-Barima Sydney

Sidney Kofi Ofori, Ghanaian hiplife artist and entrepreneur known by the stage name, Barima Sidney has stated that friend of Kumawood Actress Tracy Boakye, Gloria Kani’s rants on social media over Tracy’s beef with Mzbel drew his attention to ‘Papa no” tag.

According to him, he took inspiration from her rants to write his papa no song.

In an interview with Anita Adwoa Mirekua Ampomah on Atinka TV’s morning show, Ghana Nie, Barima Sidney said although the word already existed, its constant usage during the beef between Mzbel and Tracy made the word ‘Papano’ popular, and therefore it informed him to write to address that issue.

He stated that the song was not directed at any particular person, noting that there are men in the society who are also ‘papano’, with the explanation that they also go after young ladies to sponsor them.

“Papa No represents a character in society. Some men like any type of woman. Papa no is about the men in the society who chase young girls with big money. Aside from that, we are all papa no, but there are different types, some buy cars, I buy credit,” he said.

He urged such men to stay with their wives and leave young ladies alone.
Barima Sidney also denied allegations of audio slides which had the face of Former President, John Mahama, that of Tracy and Mzbel on the papa no song, clarifying that he never did anything like that but was rather working on his music video.

His ‘papano’ video was, however, first launched on Atinka TV.
He explained that when he was confronted by some members of the NDC about the video, he explained his side to them and they requested him to do the needful which he later issued a statement to dissociate himself from that audio slide.

“When you bring out a song, you do not have control over what people decide to do with it,” he said.

Meanwhile, Barima Sidney said he was collaborating with an artist in Gabon for a francophone version of the papano song.
