GNPC: Wacam disassociates itself from CSOs’ statement for removal of Freddie Blay, Ahwenneh Danquah

Wacam has distanced itself from a statement demanding for the removal of the acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation ) GNPC), Mr. Opoku Ahweneeh Danquah, and the Board Chairman, Mr. Freddie Blay.

It was reported by some online portals on Tuesday (May 23, 2024,) that some 29 Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in a statement are calling for the immediate removal of Mr. Blay and Mr Ahweneeh Danquah from the GNPC.

According to the said CSOs’ statement, the two men [Mr Blay and Mr Ahweneeh Danquah] have “become a threat to Ghana’s interest in the petroleum sector”.

“Wacam dissociates itself from the statement which we believe was issued under circumstance that is not clear to us because beyond listing names of organisations as being part of the statement, there are no signatures to authenticate the signing on to the statement by individuals who are representatives of organisations,” Wacam in a statement said.

The statement signed by Wacam’s Associate Executive, Mrs Hannah Owusu-Koranteng, stressed that it finds it difficult to ascertain those individuals or organisations that spearheaded the statement.

“We want the media, Wacam members, our associates and the public to know that Wacam is not associated with the statement,” the statement added.

To this end, Wacam in the statement condemned what it described as “unethical methods” used.

“We hope that Wacam’s statement to dissociate itself from the referenced statement clearly indicates our dissatisfaction with the publication,” the statement concluded.
