Goldfields Ghana supports COVID-19 fight with over $830, 000

Gold Fields Ghana has supported the COVID-19 National Trust Fund and host communities with an amount of about 833,891 US dollars to help the fight against the pandemic in the county.
The company through the Ghana Chamber of Mines donated 433,891 US dollars to support the fight by the government to reduce and stop the spread of the coronavirus and assist the most vulnerable in society.
The Executive Vice President and Head of Gold Fields West Africa, Alfred Baku after the presentation, said the donation is a timely response by the company to the call from President Akufo-Addo to support in the fight against COVID-19, which has been spreading since Ghana recorded its first case on March 12, 2020.

“As a company which prioritises the health and safety of its employees, we have a duty to support the needy and vulnerable in our society in these challenging times. We believe our contribution will go a long way to flattening the curve and help us return to normal lives soon”, Mr. Baku stressed.
Mr. Baku reiterated that apart from the presentation to COVID-19 National Trust Fund, the company has also spent approximately 400,000 US dollars directly to support employees and operational communities.
This, according to him covers the purchase of thermometers, sanitisers, goggles, face masks, protective gowns and other COVID-19 protective equipment.
The mining giant, prior to the outbreak of coronavirus in the country had instituted strict measures to screen employees, community members, contractors and visitors to the sites. These measures according to the company are still being enforced.
Mr. Alfred Baku also indicated that the company, as part of its efforts to help coronavirus fight is working closely with local and national health authorities to keep the operating areas safe and to strengthen its COVID-19 protocols. He said the dynamic and evolving nature of COVID-19 requires the employees and community members to be on high alert and observe basic hygiene protocols at all times.
Mr. Baku, therefore, commended the employees for their vigilance, courage, and dedication to work during this critical and challenging period. He urged the workers of the company to stay calm, observe personal hygiene and practise social distancing.
“This unprecedented pandemic, though tough and potentially life-threatening, will soon come to an end if we individually play our part. Let’s continue to do the right things”, he continued.
