Government Accelerates Reforms to Meet IMF Review in April

The Government of Ghana is taking decisive steps to meet the upcoming International Monetary Fund (IMF) review in April, addressing key structural benchmarks that were previously overlooked, according to Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.

Dr. Forson stated that corrective measures are already underway to strengthen the country’s economic performance and sustain its recovery efforts.

Speaking during a meeting with H.E. Daniel Krull, the German Ambassador to Ghana, Dr. Forson emphasized Ghana’s commitment to the IMF program, ensuring that missed structural benchmarks from the previous administration are rectified.

“Regarding the IMF programme, we are committed to addressing the structural benchmarks missed under the previous administration, assuring that corrective measures are already in progress and will soon be visible,” he stated.

Dr. Forson highlighted the significant progress Ghana has made in its ongoing debt restructuring efforts, with a primary focus on finalizing bilateral agreements with external creditors.

He called on Germany to help facilitate the process, stressing the importance of timely completion for Ghana’s economic recovery.

Additionally, he acknowledged Germany’s readiness to proceed with signing the required agreements to enhance Ghana’s economic stability.

The Ghanaian government’s collaboration with the IMF is a crucial step in re-establishing macroeconomic stability and ensuring long-term growth. With international support and continued reforms, the administration remains optimistic about securing a stronger and more resilient economy.

Ambassador Krull praised Ghana’s commitment, describing the discussions as fruitful and productive, reaffirming Germany’s support for Ghana’s economic transformation.
