Gov’t not being sincere in covid-19 fight – Aseidu Nketia

General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Kwadwo Asiedu Nketia, says government is not being sincere in the country’s fight against the global coronavirus pandemic.
Asiedu Nketia, affectionately called General Mosquito, asked the Akufo-Addo led administration why it failed to build the proposed 88 hospitals during their tenure of office if it claimed it had already captured the hospitals in their manifesto.
Aseidu Nketia who made this statement while speaking to host of Atinka FM’s AM Drive, Kaakyire Ofori Ayim said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) focused on roads neglecting the health sector.
“Why would you tell us to give you a year to build all these hospitals just a few months for you to leave office? You had 3 years to yourself but themed it year of roads and combed all over the country to take pictures that suggested that they were indeed constructing roads. if you had the issues of the health sector at heart you would have completed the construction of these hospitals”, he said.
The accusation by Aseidu Nketia comes after President of the Republic of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo in his 8th Covid-19 update announced his government’s decision to build over 88 hospitals in some districts without hospitals. According to the President, the project forms part of measures being taken by government to fight the covid-19 pandemic.
“Government has decided to undertake a major investment in our health care infrastructure, the largest in our history.  We will this year begin construction eighty-eight (88) hospitals in district without hospitals… each of them will be a quality, standard design, one hundred bed hospital, with accommodation for doctors, nurses, and other health workers and the intention is to complete them within a year….” Akufo Addo said.
He asked Akufo-Addo and the NPP government to be truthful to Ghanaians for once. General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Kwadwo Asiedu Nketia, also refuted claims that the Party’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama is trying hard to fuse his 2020 electioneering campaign into governments fight against covid-19.
He noted that Mr. Mahama is only trying to support efforts by the government to fight coronavirus. Responding to General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Kwadwo Asiedu Nketia, Minister for Information, Kwadwo Oppong Nkrumah also had this to say on his party’s neglect of hospitals started by the NDC.
