Gov't ready to fight spate of robberies – Ambrose Dery

Minister Designate for interior, Ambrose Dery, says the recent spate of armed robbery is of concern to government.

According to him, the government is determined to fight the menace and bring the perpetrators to book.

This statement by Ambrose Dery follows a spike in the number of robbery incidents being recorded in the country.

Speaking to the Appointments Committee of Parliament, Minister Designate for interior, Ambrose Dery, extended government’s condolence to the  affected families in the recent spate of robbery incidents.

“The recent spate of armed robberies is of concern to government and we are determined to fight it. I want to send Gov’t’s condolences to all affected families”, Ambrose Dery told the Appointment Committee.

Speaking on the accommodation challenge in the Police Force, Ambrose Dery explained that the Police Force had to introduce a renting assistance scheme for some members of the police unit.

He noted that although the accommodation matter within the police service is still an issue, the Police Service has made significant progress in the last few years.

“The security agencies face a lot of challenges including housing. In the last four years, we had to introduce a renting assistance scheme for some members of the police unit”, he added.
