Govt’s reshuffle better late than never -Expert

UK Parliament

Fred Oduro, Governance and Political Expert, says the reshuffle by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government a step in the right direction.

This comment by the expert comes after a reshuffle was announced by director of communication at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin, in a press release dated February 14, 2024.

The release mentioned the exit of the Finance minister, Ken Ofori-Atta from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.

Some ministers who have also been removed include Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Works and Housing Minis Francis Asenso Boakye, Kwaku Agyemang Manu, Health, Kwasi Anoako Attah, Roads and Highways, Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Hon. Dr. Kwaku Afriyie, Gender, Children and Social Protection Hon. Lariba Abudu, Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Devt Hon. Dan Botwe, Sanitation and Water Resources Hon. Freda Prempeh, Tourism, Arts and Culture Ibrahim Mohammed Awal, Greater Accra Region Hon. Henry Quartey, Oti Region Mr. Joseph Makubu.

The reshuffle comes months after numerous calls for a reshuffle and relieve of duties of some persons in government by the opposition.

Minority Leader, Casiel Ato Forson, the minority described the reshuffle as a mere remix of the Akufo-Addo and Alhaji Bawumia’s failed government.

“It is also too little too late, coming barely nine (9) months to the exit of the government. Neither will it solve the suffering and hardships confronting the people of Ghana as a result of the bad governance and massive uncontrolled corruption of the Akufo-Addo and Alhaji Bawumia’s government.

Reacting to the reshuffle in an interview on Atinka FM’s AM Drive with Nana Yaw Fianko, Governance and Political Expert, Fred Oduro said the NPP government making changes to the government late is better than not doing it at all.

He revealed that although he does not expect much from the new team considering the limited time to elections, we are likely to experience the green sheet of possible improvement.

“I think it is okay. Just like the saying goes, it is better late than never… I don’t expect much changes considering the limited time,” Fred Oduro added.
