GSS to release Ghana 2023 Trade Report Thursday

The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) is set to release the Ghana 2023 Trade Report on Thursday, May 30 2024.

The report will be released alongside two new reports; the Quarterly Newsletter which covers January to March 2024, and then the Export and Import Price Index.

This was made known at a media sensitization event prior to the Annual Trade Report.

Schooling journalists on the Report, Principal Statistician and Head of Trade Statistics at the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), Mr Dominic Odoom noted that it had become necessary to release the report to inform policymakers.

“What GSS is aiming to do is to try and provide the policymaker with detailed information to help policy decisions,” he said.

Mr Odoom explained that the 2023 full-year report will take the same format as the 2022 trade vulnerability report and the 2023 mid-year trade report.

“New aspects of this report are sections that elaborate on Trade by mode of transport, Trade within Africa, Trade with neighboring countries, and Trade in food products,” He noted.

For the quarterly newsletter which covers January to March 2024,

Mr Odoom said it contains a summary of total trade, trade by-products, destination and origin, and product-specific country of destination and origin.

That, he said is a quarterly focus that highlights cocoa exports.

“The newsletter includes a distinct section focusing on a new macro-economic indicator known as the Export-Import Price Index, (Unit Value Index) which will be explored in detail in the upcoming slides,” he added.

For the Export and Import Price Index (XMPI), he also noted it will cover new and essential macroeconomic indicators to track price changes amongst others.

Meanwhile, Mr Odoom, also noted that the information will be uploaded on the StatsBank to allow the public to have access to it.
