High import duty a major debate in gov’t – Nana Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has acknowledged that the issue of high import duty has been a major debate in government recently.

The Ghana Electrical Dealers Association, GUTA others have bemoaned the one hundred percent increase in import duties on their goods at the ports.

The traders argued that the situation has made it very difficult for members to clear their goods which has led to huge volumes wares stuck at the ports.

According to the President, there is a strong argument for going the way of Dubai who have no duties and get a lot of business.

Nana Addo noted that high import duties are disincentives for businesses and individuals and there's a need for government to be sensitive to concerns.
