The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare is on his way to Kumasi to assess situation after some students and police officers clashed at Abrepo.
On Monday, June 13, 2022, some students of the Islamic Senior High School at Abrepo, Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, took to the streets and blocked the road to allegedly protest against frequent accidents in front of their school.

According to reports, the protest which started peacefully resulted in firing shots by the police.
It is unclear what triggered the police to fire shots into the demonstrating crowd but some say the police opened tear gas to separate the crowd and as well foil the protest.
Due to this, it was reported that about 20 students passed out and were rushed to the hospital.
Meanwhile, some unhappy students stormed the school to demand for the release of their wards.
However, a statement Ghana Police Service in a statement, the Police managed to disperse the rioting students and calm has since been restored.
The Police confirmed that some students and some police officers have been taken to the hospital for medical attention.
It noted that,”The Inspector-General of Police is proceeding to Kumasi for a first-hand assessment of the situation.”
Meanwhile, it said the Police have commenced an investigation into the incident and further developments will be communicated.

Fuel price hike: We’re not going to increase transport fares now- GPRTU

The Industrial Relations Director for GPRTU, Alhaji Abbas Ibrahim Moro, has stated that the GPRTU is not going to increase transport fares now despite the hike in fuel prices.
The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) stated earlier that it will hold a crunch meeting next week to deliberate on a “possible” upward adjustment of transport fares.
The Union said the meeting had become necessary due to what they described as “significant hikes” in fuel prices over the past few weeks.
Prices of petrol and diesel have shot up by 7.3 percent and 9.7 percent respectively, in the last one month.
