Intervene in Bawumia-Ken Agyapong Tensions now – Amfo Sefa write to Kuffour

A former Tema West NPP Parliamentary Candidate, Dennis Amfo Sefah, has issued an emotional open letter to former President John Agyekum Kufuor, pleading with him to step in and restore calm within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as tensions rise between supporters of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Hon. Kennedy Agyapong.

In the letter, Mr. Amfo Sefah expressed deep worry over what he described as “growing tension, insults, and character assassination” between the camps of the two flagbearer hopefuls.

He warned that the escalating internal conflict could tear the party apart and damage its chances in the 2028 general elections.

“This is not the NPP our founding fathers built,” he wrote, referencing historical party figures like Danquah, Dombo, Busia, and Kufuor himself, who he said built a party of “values, decorum, unity, and national service.”

Mr. Amfo Sefah called on President Kufuor to use his moral authority and statesmanship to bring both sides together, saying: “Please do not stay silent while your party burns.”

He stressed that unity after the primaries would be critical for victory in 2028 and urged both Dr. Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong to rein in their supporters to prevent lasting divisions.

“The NPP is bigger than any individual,” he reminded, adding that the party’s survival must come before personal ambition.

The call comes as the NPP embarks on a Thank You” tour which has sparked passionate — and sometimes bitter — debate within the party.
