It’s not possible for Gov’t to recruit mercenaries-Prof. Osei Boahen

Mercenaries

Political analyst, Prof. Osei Boahen, has urged Ghanaians to disregard allegations that the government has recruited some mercenaries as part of its plans for the 2024 elections.

According to him, it is not even possible, looking at the investments the government has made in the Ghana Army.
This comes after allegations were made by US-based social commentator, Kevin Taylor.

Kevin Taylor alleged in one of his broadcasts last week that a container of arms had been shipped into the country and deposited at the presidency and that it was part of plans by the NPP to raise a private army for electoral purposes.

Following the allegation, the Minority in Parliament has called for a probe into the matter.

But the Defense Minister,, Dominic Nitiwul, dismissed the call for a probe.

Speaking on Atinka TV’s morning show, Ghana Nie with Ekourba Gyasi Simpremu, Prof. Osei Boahen encouraged Ghanaians to disregard the allegations and have faith in the military here in Ghana.

According to him, the military have provided security for all governments and the people of Ghana throughout all these years and therefore it was not possible that the government would entrust the nation to mercenaries.

He said the allegations were just causing fear and panic to the people, advising all to believe in the Ghana Army.

“It is not possible that the government has brought in mercenaries.” “We have worked with these soldiers; I admire their work; I follow the work of the soldiers, both young and old; some of my family members are soldiers, and I can say that for the Ghana Army.” “When we talk about one of the best in Africa, you cannot exclude the Ghanaian Army,” Prof. Osei Boahen said.
