Joyce Bawah Mogtari Urges Digital Creators to Uphold Ethics Despite Lack of Formal Training

Presidential Adviser and Special Aide to President John Dramani Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari Esq, has encouraged digital media creators to prioritise ethics and self-discipline in their work, even if they lack formal training.

She made the remarks at the maiden Digital Media Creators Networking and Capacity Building Conference organised by 1957 News.

Addressing participants, Mogtari noted that the media space is rapidly evolving, making formal training less rigid than before. She explained that while some creators are trained in journalism or communication, others succeed through innovation and creativity.

“The environment is very fluid. The world is changing, and innovation is key,” she said, adding that platforms like social media have created opportunities for people without traditional media backgrounds.

She, however, stressed that ethics must remain central to content creation. According to her, personal values often guide responsible behaviour, especially in a space where there are few strict rules.

Mogtari cited an example of a court case where private videos shared during a relationship were later made public during a divorce, causing harm to one party. She warned that once such content is published online, it is difficult to completely remove it.

She urged creators to be mindful of what they share, noting that irresponsible content can damage reputations and have long-term consequences.

On regulation, Mogtari said self-regulation remains the best approach for now. She encouraged creators to build credibility by being responsible, as this would attract public trust and opportunities.

She also advised digital creators to formalise their work by registering their platforms as businesses and building structured media organisations.

According to her, with the right approach, local digital platforms could grow into globally recognised media houses.

“Don’t be surprised if one day international outlets reference your work,” she said.
